Position DescriptionThe Seattle manages the city's public art program, cultural partnerships grant programs, ARTS at King Street Station, the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, and The initiative in the effort to foster a city driven by creativity that provides the opportunity for everyone to engage in diverse arts and cultural experiences. We will continue to break barriers and build arts-integrated tools that challenge the status quo and push us toward the inclusive society we envision.To ensure the success of the city's public art program and cultural partnerships, ARTS has an exciting opportunity within its Public Art Program for a temporary King Street Station (KSS) Activations Project Manager to join a growing and passionate team and office with programs focusing on public art, grant-making, arts education, cultural space, and racial equity. In this role, you will work with internal partners and the community to support visual arts, performing arts and various events.Job ResponsibilitiesThe KSS Activations Project Manager will collaborate with the Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) team, city staff, and community organizations to curate, handle, and implement arts programming aimed at activating public spaces, particularly King Street Station and other downtown locations in Seattle. This role entails developing a diverse range of artistic installations, events, and performances to engage Seattle's diverse communities and audiences. The position requires a multi-disciplinary approach to programming, encompassing visual art installations, performance art, video/film screenings, dance, music/sound, and beyond.This is more what you'll be doing daily:
  • Work closely with ARTS and city staff to identify suitable locations for artwork presentations and performances at King Street Station and other downtown sites.
  • Develop partnerships with ARTS, city staff, and community organizations to build a programming schedule and budget for installations, performances, and presentations spanning September 2024 to July 2025.
  • Collaborate with ARTS and city staff to craft calls for artists, coordinate artist selection panels, and oversee the contracting and management of commissioned artists.
  • Coordinate public outreach and marketing efforts in tandem with ARTS staff to promote the arts programming and engage the community.
  • Secure all necessary permits and permissions for presenting artworks on city properties, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

  • Proven experience in curating and handling arts and/or other programming including but not limited to creative industries, film, music, dance, etc, preferably in a municipal, non-profit or community setting.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to engage various partners, develop and adhere to budgets, timelines, and schedules.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse partners, including artists, city officials, and community members.
  • Strong racial equity lens and community engagement experience, particularly with artists, creatives, cultural workers, community-based organizations, and/or government agencies.
  • Knowledge of public art practices or creative industries, including familiarity with the selection processes, contract negotiation, and permitting procedures.
  • Creative thinking and a passion for encouraging community engagement through the arts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
In addition to the qualities mentioned above, you will need to possess the below required qualifications:Three (3) years of professional level experience in the arts or other creative programs' administration, including one year of lead experience,ANDA baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts, Arts Administration or a related field,ORA combination of education, training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.License, Certification and Other Requirements:Current State of Washington driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.Additional InformationThis is a full-time, benefits eligible temporary position that is covered by the FLSA (eligible for overtime payment). The anticipated duration of this position is through 5/15/2025. The full pay range for this position is $43.74 - $50.90 hourly. The salary for this individual role has been identified as $43.74 per hour.This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to work in the office two days a week. Telework option is available 3 days a week under current City of Seattle policy. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.
