- Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
- Reviews and evaluates developed x-rays or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan
- Keys command and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjusts transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images
- Operates or oversees operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
- Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table.
- Records, processes and maintains patient data and treatment records, and prepare reports.
- Takes thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
- Removes and processes film.
- Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready.
- Monitors patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
- Coordinates work with clerical personnel or other technologists.
- Provides assistance in dressing or changing seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients.
- Demonstrates new equipment, procedures, and techniques to staff, and provides technical assistance.
- Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation. Prepares patients for tests or treatments. Maintains records of examinations performed, views taken, and technical factors used.
- Performs CT scanning procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision
- Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.
- Positions patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician; lifts or transports ill or injured patients.
- Operates x-ray equipment, prepares radiographic rooms, equipment supplies, medication and contrast media.
- Assures sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and other required equipment are present and in working order. Practices sterile technique.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of formal radiologic training from an AMA approved school
- Meets requirements for registry by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist
- ARRT Registered strongly preferred.
- Certified by State of Texas as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist
- CPR Certified
- 2 or more years clinical experience preferred
- Good communication and patient service skills are a must
