The Associate Director of Residential Education for Residence Education is one of three management staff in the Office of Residential Communities. Responsibilities include: the implementation of Residential Education and the Intentional Co-Curricular Programming Model, Supervision of Area Coordinators; supervise special interest house liaisons; support and develop High Impact Practices (Living Learning Communities). Participate in the University’s Emergency Response in the Director on Duty rotation.Salary: $47,000-$50,000Responsibilities:
  • Staff:
  • Select, train, supervisor, mentor and evaluate staff including Area Coordinators and Graduate Residence Directors, and indirectly their student staff
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and training of all professional, para-professional, and student staff
  • Coordinate Fall and Spring Training for Professional and Paraprofessional staff
  • Develop in-service training opportunities for various staff levels.
  • Collaborate with the Judson Leadership Center Coordinator on professional development for the paraprofessional staff
  • Supervise the Special Interest House Liaisons
  • Oversee and coordinate the evaluation process for student staff
  • Residential Education:
  • Work in collaboration with the Director to enhance departmental learning outcomes
  • Support the development and assessment of circular initiatives
  • Develop living learning programs throughout the residence halls
  • Assist with the development of community standards
  • Develop community engagement initiatives within the office and Alfred University
  • Serve as a liaison with various departments around residential engagement and educational success
  • Work with Professional and Paraprofessional staff to help guide programming efforts to best meet the needs of the on-campus student population
  • Work with the faculty and liaisons in the Program Houses to see where efforts can be supported and where collaboration can take place
  • High Impact Practices:
  • Develop Sunday Series programming initiative
  • Support the development of Living Learning Communities
  • Manage assessment initiatives when it comes to high impact practices and develop reports for upper administration on HIPs
  • Student Support:
  • Respond to student concerns, problems, and conflicts
  • Make appropriate referrals to residence hall staff and University offices
  • Facilitate conflict resolution for roommate issues
  • Support parents and students alike to solve issues that arise within the halls
  • Assist students in resolving disputes and facilitate roommate mediations
  • Student Conduct & Conduct Resolution:
  • Serve as a hearing officer for student conduct cases to hold students accountable for negative actions
  • Serves as an appeal officer for lower level of student conduct violations
  • Develop educationally based sanctions for students to align with goals of institution
  • Educate students about and enforce the University Policies and Guidelines, Residential Community Standards, and the Student Code of Conduct
  • Safety:
  • Serve on University Care team, supporting behavioral and academic success of students
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, acquiring, and updating MSDS information for hazards that may be present in their area
  • Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned
  • Additional Duties:
  • Provides quality customer service to students, parents, faculty and staff by clarifying policy, addressing concerns and answering inquiries in a timely fashion
  • Participate in weekly Residence Life staff meetings, trainings, and in-service programs
  • Support University events such as open houses, accepted student day, orientation, commencement, hot dog day
  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer
  • Participate in and chairs various departmental committees
  • Participate in all required Division meetings and functions
  • Participate in Student Affairs Division Staff Development
  • Assist the Director of Residential Communities with special projects as assigned
  • Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols
  • Other Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people’s lives
  • Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment. Serve as Campus Security Authority with regard to Clery Act

Qualifications-Education & Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Formal Education:
  • Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience:
  • Significant experience in problem solving and residence life, emphasis on facilitation of processes including but not limited to staff recruitment / selection, training, learning outcomes, assessment, advising, leadership, and crisis response.
  • Additional Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and some desktop publishing. Excellent customer service and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task.
