The CAS team is global, diverse, endlessly curious and strives to make scientific insights accessible to innovators worldwide.CAS is currently seeking an Organic Chemist on our Content Operations team. This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.Position Summary:The Organic chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem solving capabilities, and relevant language skills to help build CAS’s world-class collection of Markush structures. They leverage their expertise to curate high-quality research data from patent authorities in their area of scientific expertise and across a diversity of scientific domains. The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.Job Duties:
  • Analyzes, collects, and curates the valuable chemical structure data disclosed in patent publications, utilizing CAS indexing policies and their expertise.
  • Leverages technical knowledge and applicable language skills to extract key insights and build the CAS Content Collection.
  • Responsibilities include analysis of patents with Markush structures and indexing those Markush structures in a production environment.
Job Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree in organic chemistry or related scientific field. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Japanese, Korean, German and/or Russian language skill is desired, but not required.
  • Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills; experience with patents is desired.
  • Strong learning aptitude, including the ability to quickly learn and apply complex scientific concepts, policies, and technology tools. Ability to apply learnings to new situations and to glean relevant insights.
  • Solutions focused with an aim towards continuous improvement and growth.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications. Aptitude and interest for learning and using various web-based and/or proprietary computer applications including, but not limited to video conferencing, instant messaging, and document sharing software.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate, communicate and share knowledge with peers with diverse backgrounds.

This position will be located in our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.Job Duties:We have a full-time position available in analysis of the world’s scientific literature, including patents and journals, for curation into CAS products. Primary responsibilities include review and curation of literature in a number of fields such as chemistry, biological sciences, material science, and engineering in a production environment. Additional responsibilities include using data analysis skills to identify and implement process improvements, planning and managing unit-level projects, and leveraging data analysis skills to measure and report on progress.Job Requirements:Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science, including successful completion of Organic chemistry coursework and a minimum of 1 year of work experience. The successful candidate will be an excellent team player who is organized and willing to adapt to the needs and requirements of an agile organization. This candidate must demonstrate a proactive and flexible attitude, with a keen willingness to show initiative.
