***The IU5 Migrant Education Program is looking for a nurse for a summer program at the Charleroi School District. Candidates will need to be available July 15 - August 8, 2024, Monday - Thursday from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Candidate will also need to travel to the IU in Edinboro, PA for a new hire orientation on either Monday, June 17th or Monday, July 1st.Position Summary:The Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5's Migrant Education Program is seeking an experienced nurse for a campus-based summer school program. The primary responsibility will be to provide health services to students when they are at summer school, such as treating injuries and mild to acute sicknesses, or supporting students with chronic illnesses. The nurse will also help with preventive care by educating students on how to avoid communicable diseases and having proper hygiene. The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children, their parents or guardians, and teachers.Required Qualifications:
  • State licensed practical nurse (LPN) or greater
  • Reliable transportation to and from the summer campus location(s)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience as a school nurse
  • Experience working with migratory students and/or English Language Learners
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness
  • Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
  • Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
  • Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
  • Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:This job operates in various locations. Incumbent must have the ability to monitor students' health.
