United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) fights for the economic well-being of all people in Greater Cincinnati so our entire community can thrive - now and in the future. Using three strategic impact pillars of Taking Action, Advocating, and Investing, the Community Impact team is primarily responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining community solutions that will drive community level change across Greater Cincinnati in the areas of educational success, financial empowerment, and housing security.As a member of the Community Impact department, this position will lead and implement initiatives of UWGC's Black-Led Social Change Initiative (BLSC). This initiative is aimed at deepening UWGC's support of Black-led and grassroots ideas, strategies, and organizations as part of UWGC's impact solutions to improve our region.The Senior Manager, Black Led Social Change will provide strategic leadership and daily management of BLSC - including approaches to providing capacity building for, convening/connection with, and investment in Black-led, grassroots ideas, strategies, and organizations. Additionally, the role supports co-creation of new solutions in partnership with community leaders through Champions of Change. Overall, the position aims to promote equity through community engagement and empowerment throughout UWGC's community impact work.Key Areas of Responsibility:Strategic Leadership of Black-Led Social Change and Project Management
  • Provide overall leadership, including strategy and implementation, of BLSC. Project manage key efforts and projects, including:
  • Designing and implementing opportunities to increase UWGC's support for Black led ideas, projects, and organizations:
  • Managing and coordinating Black Empowerment Works and other investment processes in support of BLSC.
  • Designing and implementing Champions of Change to co-create new solutions by engaging key volunteers and community organizations.
  • Design and coordinate capacity building and connection efforts as necessary to support the ecosystem of Black changemakers in the region.
  • Lead relationship management and partner/ community convening approaches for the BLSC network of partners and stakeholders.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
  • Engage community partners, members, and stakeholders regularly to gather input and understand needs and assets across the region.
  • Participate in community meetings, convenings, and other events to represent UWGC and BLSC.
  • Identify, build, and support new and existing partnerships.
Thought Leadership and Advocacy
  • Stay up to date on all relevant research and best practices in community social change approaches through collective impact, network building, organizing and trust-based philanthropy. Serve as the content expert on specific areas, dependent on individuals' expertise and experience, on UWGC's Impact team.
  • Support issue area education and community awareness efforts in close partnership with community partners and UWGC's director of Public Policy and Advocacy aimed to promote economic wellbeing.
  • In collaboration with team members and other departments, support UWGC's thought leaders and evaluation efforts by writing blog posts, impact reports, presentations, and other forms of external communication.
Management and Internal Collaboration
  • Manage other team member(s) to ensure strong and timely implementation of all projects. Coach and develop staff as needed.
  • Manage all financial budgets for projects and annual operations for BLSC.
  • Work closely with Area Center Directors and other internal staff to coordinate efforts across the region and leverage internal expertise as needed (marketing, finance, IT, etc.).
  • Support all grant writing/ reporting, fundraising and corporate engagement around BLSC and other impact efforts as appropriate.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills and customer service focused workstyle.
  • Successfully manages multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Works well under deadline pressure and meets timeline requirements.
  • Stays up to date on industry and community trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and communities to align around shared vision and implement complex projects.
  • Demonstration of strong technical skills with MS products (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Experience and familiarity in grantmaking processes - either as a grant maker or grantee.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and entrepreneurs.
  • Regular travel to partners within the regional area; need to work outside of traditional hours of operation occasionally.
