DescriptionPosition at Tokio Marine HCCUnderwriting AssistantThe Underwriting Assistant will perform a variety of primarily routine tasks associated with processing new and renewal insurance policies and maintaining agent records. Incumbents in this position provide underwriting support in single or multiple areas of miscellaneous professional liability, including but not limited to Miscellaneous Medical Professional Liability, Sexual Misconduct and Molestation Liability, and Social Services Professional Liability.If you are looking for a career in the insurance industry in a fast-paced, ever-expanding company, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Team in our Mt.   • Input new, temporary, and/or renewal submissions into a designated database to assist in the underwriting process.
  • Update and maintain departmental records such as updating policies, endorsements, policy status, quote information, countersignatures, invoices, broker information, etc.
  • Prepare and draft correspondence such as quote letters, memorandums, declinations, or invoices, using U.S. mail, or other electronic means.
  • Answer phone and resolve basic inquiries or forward calls to the appropriate contact for resolution. Initiate phone calls to brokers and other parties to secure information or provide updated status.
  • Perform incoming and outgoing mail distribution duties.
  • Prepare, process, and assemble approved policies, renewals, and other supplemental documents for distribution.
  • Forward requested underwriting files and related documents to internal departments such as Claims, Accounting, etc.
  • Perform other general clerical duties such as setting up files, copying, filing, scanning, ordering supplies, and operating departmental office equipment.
  • May perform relief work within the department or for other departments, as needed.
  • Recommend and participate in the implementation of improvements to current processes and procedures.
  • Support underwriters in quoting and servicing accounts in an accurate and timely manner, within level of expertise. Assist in evaluation of new and renewal by collecting updated application information, and other various points of data for individual accounts.
  • Work closely with other employees within the department to increase knowledge of the products and procedures.
  • Foster relationships with underwriters and brokers and support department initiatives
  • Maintain policy files in an orderly, efficient manner, including accuracy of binders, invoices, and other policy documents.
Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of two years of relevant and progressive office/clerical experience acquired from working in insurance underwriting or related industry.
Other
  • Possess and have the ability to apply basic knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Good organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; attention to detail is crucial.
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
