- Follow blue prints or configure pipe routes and align pipeline sections.
- Dig trenches with trenching tools.
- Cut pipes to required lengths and slide pipe into trenches.
- Direct tractor drivers where to position pipe in preparation for welding.
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
- Inspect pipe joints and couplings to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
- Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
- Grade trenches or culverts.
- Seal joints.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- General knowledge of trench safety.
- Experience with grading trenches and operation of laser leveling systems is preferred.
- Must have good safety history and a willingness to engage and contribute to ongoing safe work practices including strong knowledge of excavation, trenching and shoring safety standards.
- Responsible and reliable employee with good attendance habits.
- Ability to follow direction and be a team-player.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, and client representatives.
- Required: 1 year of verifiable experience in the utilities industry as a pipe layer.
- Preferred: High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time on various terrain, including slopes and uneven ground, and regularly push, pull, shovel, bend to pick up, and lift items.
- Ability to push/pull/manipulate up to 96ft./lbs., including but not limited to fire hydrant valves, suspended loads, etc.
- Ability to push/pull/drag lifting chains/straps up to 53 ft./lbs.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 90 lbs., including but not limited to generators, jumping jacks, water hoses, water meters, manhole covers, bags of cement, pipe fittings, and/or other various equipment or materials,
- Ability to team-lift 97 lbs. material, tools, and power equipment.
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders and various levels of terrain.
- Ability to reach above head and at 6-inces with fine and gross motor skill
- Ability to bend/manipulate rebar
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch
- Outside work exposed to variant weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow) and muddy ground conditions.
