- Apprehends, processes, and impounds lost, injured, or abandoned animals.
- Responds to complaints and calls concerning loose, stray, and sick animals.
- Checks and verifies animals for proof of rabies vaccination.
- Completes and maintains logs, records, and reports associated with animal control duties.
- Acts as liaison with the county shelter agent.
- Drives and operates animal control vehicles.
- Prepares and implements programs and public relations activities to encourage animal adoptions, etc.
- Assists the shelter staff in times of need with cleaning the facility, care of animals, or transport of animals to adoption sites, veterinarian appointments, rescue or adoption agencies, etc.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Ability to interact with the public and other employees in a professional manner.
- Ability to pick up animals in a safe and effective manner and transport them to the shelter.
- Understanding of the protocols and rules associated with the assigned tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry animals and other equipment.
- Ability to work indoor and outdoor and in all weather types.
- Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver's License.
- Animal Control Officer Certification (acquire within 1 year of employment).
- Level 1 and 2 National Animal Control Association Training (acquire within 1 year of employment).
- Euthanasia Certification (acquire within 1 year of employment).
