Empowering.BAE Systems is hiring now for a Senior Chemist to support out of its Radford, Virginia location. We are seeking a detail oriented, highly organized team member to join the Quality Analytical team by performing routine and non-routine chemical, and physical analysis of energetic materials and other specialty chemicals and raw materials. The Quality Analytical group primarily provides analytical and technical support in the manufacturing of energetic materials and energetic formulations.This position will offer professional variety and will require limited travel. This position offers work-life balance including a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.In this role as a Senior Chemist, you'll be charged to:
  • Collect and distribute analytical data;
  • Assist in the development of new test procedures and improvements of existing procedures;
  • Assist in the procurement, setup, operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various types of analytical instrumentation within the laboratories;
  • Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff;
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with evaluation and selection of laboratory equipment and instrumentation;
  • Provide training on analytical instruments and procedures to other laboratory personnel;
  • Document technical details of research and analytical methodologies;
  • Report findings quickly and concisely to technical leads in various sectors within the company;
  • Provide general analytical support.

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, plus four (4) years of relevant industry experience;
  • Experience with various types of analytical instrumentation and techniques (including, but not limited to chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal, wet-chemistry techniques, etc.);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and/or within a specialized team.

  • Master's degree or PhD in chemistry, engineering, or related field preferred;
  • Experience with various types of analytical instrumentation and techniques, (including, but not limited to chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal, wet-chemistry techniques, etc.) and concepts including ability to troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and develop new methodologies;
  • Project management experience;
  • Technical writing experience;
  • Experience handling hazardous materials;
  • Advanced computer skills.
