FAMILY MEDICINE MD- EDPosition Purpose: Emergency Department are responsible for assessing and addressing patients entering the hospital’s emergency room. They promptly treat injuries, infections, and other conditions to stabilize patients, requesting necessary medical tests, creating treatment plans, and referring patients to specialists as needed. All ED physicians report directly to the ED medical director/ Chair of the Department.ER Physician Overview:As an ER Physician, your primary focus is ensuring the stabilization of incoming patients, resolving immediate dangers posed by their conditions. Performing tests and follow-ups is crucial to achieving effective treatments. Success is demonstrated by your proficiency in solving patient cases and discharging them seamlessly.Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)
  • Perform initial screening on incoming patients to integrate them into the ER’s current load.
  • Oversee patient care, treatment, and recovery.
  • Participate in research efforts and clinical studies when applicable.
  • Maintain clinical records adhering to regulations and standards.
  • Clear patients for discharge or recommend further procedures with specialists.
  • Conduct follow-ups to monitor the patient’s condition.
  • 100% attendance for ED meeting mandatory (virtual or in-person), 50% medical staff meetings mandatory.
  • Maintain above average patient’s satisfaction score and avoid patients and staff complaints.
Requirements
  • Completed medical studies from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years in a residency program, with active American Board Certification in EM or eligibility.
  • Active and unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of Illinois.
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Life Support (ACLS)
  • Deep knowledge of current medical practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work and think quickly in a high-stressed environment.
Patient Satisfaction and Emergency Medicine MetricsIt is expected of the providers to participate in the following ED initiatives and metrics which will enhance the patient's experience in the ED:
  • Optimizing Patient Flow:
  • Improving patient flow to enhance satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Providing Basic Items to Patients:
  • Offering essential materials, such as resources on smoking cessation and alcohol abuse effects, through videos in waiting rooms and easy-to-read articles to improve the waiting experience.
  • Prioritizing Customer Service:
  • Integrating customer service practices alongside clinical protocols to ensure patient comfort and aligning with Becker’s Hospital Review recommendations.
  • Maintaining a Clean and Safe Environment:
  • Emphasizing cleanliness for patient satisfaction and infection prevention.
  • Implementing effective environmental services programs for a welcoming and safe environment.
  • Engaging Leadership:
  • Actively involving leadership in initiatives fostering a positive and efficient ED.
  • Providing support to associates in their efforts for positive change.
  • Fostering Teamwork:
  • Emphasizing coordination, communication, and collaboration among clinical and non-clinical teams to enhance the patient's experience.
  • Celebrating Success by Administration
  • Highlighting positive patient reviews to boost morale and cultivate a positive work environment.
  • The providers' feedback and participation in improving these metrics is crucial for refining and implementing our emergency services effectively.
Machines, tools, equipment and work aids required: General office equipment; Other Equipment Includes: IV and feeding pumps, blood pressure and temperature equipment, bariatric and lift equipment, specialty beds, wheelchairs, weight scales, electronic work stations and other medical appliances.
