JOB TITLE: OB Resident Registered NurseDEPARTMENT: Women’s HealthREPORTS TO: Women’s Health DirectorJOB SUMMARYThe paid full-time residency will be a six to nine month opportunity to learn the initial skills necessary to become an OB nurse. The specific competencies required of the resident will be completed as opportunities present or are tested in the clinical setting. The residency will have portions of required reading, competency assessments, and coaching.JOB REQUIREMENTSThe resident may begin residency with a temporary license issued by the state of Wyoming after graduation from an approved school of nursing and prior to obtaining full Wyoming state licensure. The NCLEX must be passed on the first attempt and taken within the time frame established prior to hire. Should the NCLEX not be passed on the first attempt, the candidate’s residency will immediately end. The expected start date will be in July in accordance with the Human Resources schedule of orientation dates.The resident will perform as an RN after obtaining Wyoming state licensure as a registered nurse. Once competency validation is obtained, the resident can be scheduled to care for labor, deliver, nursery, postpartum, or post-op GYN surgical nursing.The resident will:
  • Be a new graduate RN or RN with less than 1 year since passing NCLEX
  • Will train in the Women’s Health and Nursery department
  • Agree to working both day and night shift throughout the program to obtain the maximum number of opportunities to learn.
  • Apply for an open position in the CRH organization when the OB residency program is complete
  • Have preceptor throughout the time of the residency program that will provide daily feedback.
  • Meet with the Women’s Health Clinical Coordinator frequently for feedback and direction of future learning opportunities.
  • Be provided opportunities to learn and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to unit process improvement, quality, and safety projects
EXPERIENCENew Grad RNs or RNs that had taken their NCLEX no more than 365 days before the residency begins in July 2022.SKILLS
  • Graduate nurse level skill with potential to learn from exposure to your own experience as well as others
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of sterile technique and infection control.
  • Ability to perform and learn effectively in stressful situations
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess emotional intelligence
  • Ability to document in an electronic medical record as well as other documentation processes the organization has
  • Skills that must be obtained during residency:
  • Knowledge and ability to care for patients in need of labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery care.
  • Technical aspects of mother/infant (couplet) care.
  • Gynecological post-op care
  • Must complete a skills checklist as the residency progresses
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: NRP, BLS, Basic Fetal Monitoring
  • When class options permit: S.T.A.B.L.E. & AWHONN Intermediate Fetal monitoring with competency
  • Recommended: AWHONN membership.
