Offer DescriptionDepartment of Forest Mycology and Plant PathologyThe department undertakes fundamental and applied research focused on interactions involving plants, pathogenic, symbiotic and saprotrophic fungi and other microorganisms and their role in forest and agricultural systems.Evolution in Phytophthora infestansSubject:BiologyProject description:The aim of the project is to investigate the evolution of fungicide resistance in Phytophthora infestans, the causal agent of potato late blight, using a combination of established and novel methods. The successful candidate will assess the prevalence and evolutionary risk of development of fungicide resistance in P. infestans in Sweden based on field sampling, molecular tools and bioassays. The project has a strong link to industry and the outcome of this work will provide strong support for an environmentally and economically sustainable future for Swedish potato production.Qualifications:We are looking for a highly motivated applicant who holds an academic degree at the MSc level or equivalent in agronomy, plant protection, or related fields. Documented knowledge of molecular and phenotypic analyses associated with the population genetics and evolutionary biology of plant pathogens are highly valued. Ability to speak and write well in English and good analytic skills are required. Experience with scientific publications in referred journals is an advantage. Good teamwork, independence, strong work ethic accuracy and cultural sensitivity are valued .
