Please reference the exact job posting.If you have questions regarding a job posting, contact the Office of Human Resources @ 507-328-4251 or emailJOB SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Assistant Facilities Manager supervises the day-to-day custodial services operations of 30 Buildings. The Assistant Facilities Manager is responsible for planning the daily activity, training and supervision of their assigned staff to ensure a clean and safe environment for students and staff. Ensures the Facilities Department and staff is in compliance with applicable District policies, standards and regulatory agency codes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, District, city, state, and federal government regulations.
  • Manages, supervises and evaluates the daily activity of the custodial staff assigned to the elementary, secondary and support buildings.
  • Enforces quality control standards and procedures for all tasks assigned to the custodial department.
  • Responsible for sourcing, selection, and on-boarding of all new hires in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
  • Manages the training, discipline and discharge of personnel as required.
  • Coordinates the activities of maintenance employees to utilize materials, and equipment in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Works closely with the Facilities Managers and the other Assistant Facilities Managers to ensure all functions in the facility division are operating efficiently and effectively.
  • Provides technical review and analysis of cleaning products, materials and equipment used by personnel in the departments.
  • Conducts daily site visits and inspections of the facilities to ensure the District’s Custodial Cleaning Standard are being met.
  • Stays current with cleaning technology including green cleaning methods.
  • Conducts one-on-one and group refresher training annually with each member of the custodial staff as needed.
  • Ensures staffing levels are adequate for all school buildings, responsible for providing subbing coverage at sites and departments that are shorthanded.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable human resources policies and procedures.
  • First line of response to emergency custodial, security and maintenance calls. Makes independent decisions on required response, dispatches personnel when needed and assists when needed.
  • Interacts with principals, day and night custodians, administrative staff, teachers, students, Athletic Directors, building activities and building rentals staff, contractors, fire and police departments, and various vendors.

  • Ability to work with and lead a diverse team of administrators, supervisors, and staff.
  • Knowledge of established policies, protocols and procedures, and the ability to ensure compliance.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and interaction skills.
  • Knowledge of city, state, federal and District regulations and guidelines covering public school buildings, maintenance, construction and health and safety, and the ability to apply those regulations and guidelines to ensure the District remains in compliance.
  • Ability to work successfully under pressure and handle multiple changing priorities and requests from a wide variety of sources, with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills including outstanding conflict resolution, responsiveness and follow through.
  • A thorough working knowledge of the maintenance contract and the ability to evaluate, communicate, and administer the maintenance contract in a manner protecting the District’s interests and resources.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential employee material.
  • The position is considered "essential personnel" and is required to provide administrative, management, individual support and various other duties, as required, during and outside normal working hours including institution closures and duties associated with emergencies, and scheduled and unscheduled events.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position may encounter, but not limited to the following activities: talking in person/on phone, hearing, sitting, reaching, crouching; kneeling; shoveling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Moves up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations.
  • Stands on scaffolding, ladders, and platform lifts, at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • An AA/AS Degree or 3 years of experience in School District Facilities Operations with a minimum of a H.S. degree or GED is required.
  • 3 years of management experience in a manufacturing, office or retail setting.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
  • 2nd Class C boiler license required.
  • CPO – Certified Pool Operator license, needed within 6 months of hire.
