- Screen patients who are at nutritional risk prior to or while undergoing therapies.
- Provide patients with nutritional assessments, counseling, and nutritional recommendations individualized to patient's specific therapies and nutritional needs.
- Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary team patient-care rounds for medical oncology, radiation oncology and bone marrow transplant unit. Contribute to quality assurance programs to patient care evaluation programs.
- Provide on-going nutrition classes for patients and in-services for staff addressing nutrition topics and research pertinent to the oncology field.
- Assure quality and safety of nourishment's provided to patients in treatment area. Ensure nourishment area is clean, stocked well and is strictly used as a patient food area.
- Work with nursing staff, social workers, physicians and resource librarian to update and develop nutritional education and resource materials targeting specific needs of patients.
- Obtain continued education in the field of nutrition and oncology medicine, and the developing area of comprehensive therapeutic complimentary practices by reviewing current research of attending educational programs so that dietitian can be an effective resource for patients and staff.
- Establish contacts and develop good work/communication relationships with nutritional product vendors, community resource agencies, and other departments within CC and hospital so that dietitian can provide effective comprehensive nutritional services and referrals to patients.
- Complies with regulatory requirements (i.e. TJC) appropriate for position.
- Current Registered Dietitian with solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on oncology nutrition (maintain current registration at all times.
- Must have excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels
- Capable of developing and implementing nutrition education programs, developing tools to measure needs of patients and quality of services.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multi-disciplinary team providing patients comprehensive care and with support service department.
- Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the work place and good verbal/writing skills.
- Person must be ethical, honest and trustworthy. Be able to follow through on work independently
