Shift40 hours per week, primary shift to be determined by the department (may start as early as 6:30am or start later in the morning and work until 6:00pm or later). The candidate must be available to work rotating weekends and holidays.Job SummaryThe Laboratory Scientist, Certified will be responsible for performing laboratory testing in a fast-paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of the Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including KY Children's Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.This position is responsible for the testing and maintenance of high complexity laboratory tests performed in the Cytogenetics Laboratory with a focus on Chromosome Analysis and Fluorescent InSitu Hybridization (FISH) Analysis. Additionally, this position will be required to troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation, provide guidance with design and implementation of experiments, and assist with additional projects as needed. Skills / Knowledge / AbilitiesQuick learner, show initiative, ability to follow established procedures, and multi-task. Attention to detail, the ability to organize and prioritize work assignments are a must. Communication skills and ability to work closely with colleagues and senior leadership in a close lab setting. Experience with light microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, and tissue cultures is preferred.

Preferred Education/ExperienceMLS or Bachelor's Degree in science with an ASCP certification (CG ASCP certification preferred). Experience with light microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, and tissue cultures is preferred. One or more years' related experience in a laboratory is preferred.
