A teacher wanted to co-lead classrooms and co-facilitate learning in all subjects in grades 6, 7, and 8. BASSE is the right fit for your career in education if:You are a lifelong learner with a passion for awakening the passion in others.You deeply understand supporting students with disabilities across content areas.You are seeking opportunities to make your mark in an innovative educational environment.You want to collaborate with your colleagues to create an inclusive community of learners.You believe in the potential of all students, work to build connections with them, and recognize your responsibility to meet them where they are and guide them to where they want to go.ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Head of School and Special Education Coordinator, the Special Education Teacher will:Collaborate with general education teachers, parents/guardians, and other specialists to develop comprehensive and individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons, incorporating differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and assistive technology tools to support diverse learners.Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and their families to support the development and implementation of personalized learning plans for all students.Modify and adapt IB curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the unique learning needs and goals outlined in each student's IEP.Monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies as needed, and document student achievements and challenges in alignment with IEP objectives.Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in inclusive classroom settings, ensuring access to the IB curriculum and participation in service learning experiences.Facilitate small group instruction and intervention sessions to address specific learning needs and remediate skill deficits for students with disabilities.Use data-driven assessments and progress monitoring tools to identify areas of strength and areas for growth and tailor instructional activities to individual student needs.Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support students in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals.Collaborate with other teachers and community partners to design service learning projects that promote civic responsibility, social justice, and global citizenship within the context of the IB framework.Provide support and accommodations as needed to ensure that students with disabilities can actively participate in service learning activities and contribute to the community in meaningful ways.Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to special education, differentiated instruction, personalized learning, and service-learning pedagogies.Serve as a resource and mentor for colleagues seeking guidance on inclusive teaching practices, strategies, and accommodations for students with disabilities.Collaborate with and communicate regularly with parents/guardians to develop partnerships that support student learning and well-being, including participation in IEP meetings, goal-setting conferences, and workshops on special education topics.Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, progress reports, and IEP documentation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and student support planning sessions to develop comprehensive plans for addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities.Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives, policies, and practices that promote inclusive education, personalized learning, and service learning within the context of the IB curriculum.Other duties as assignedThis is an approximately 40-hours per week, 10-month role. A criminal background check and TB test is required.Required and Desired AttributesTeaching experience in the middle grades. We seek a range of experience levels (anywhere from novice to expert teachers) to comprise our inaugural faculty.Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited college or university.A Delaware teaching license and certification in special education, or the ability to apply for them; find more information .Teachers of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
