- Assist staff and clients with any reasonable request for assistance.
- Attend to any clients in the Health Centers who are engaging in any disruptive or undesirable behavior.
- Respect and honor client rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.
- Perform periodic safety checks of the entire interior, outside perimeter and premises of the Health Center.
- Write clear, concise, complete and timely required reports for occurrences of the shift
- Facilitate all building evacuations and control during fire alarms or other emergency situations requiring building evacuation.
- Directly assist with any emergency response to the Health Center by the police bureau and/or the fire department.
- Act as a first responder for any medical emergencies on the Health Center premises.
- Perform all safety actions in accordance with the safety directives and policies of the Safety Supervisor.
- Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the treatment team with interventions which support a trauma informed environment for clients and staff.
- Use non-violent physical intervention techniques with clients as a last resort for crisis intervention.
- During late evening shift hours at the Plaza location, escort all clinicians to their vehicles when they have finished their shift and are leaving for the day.
- Demonstrate responsibility for safety of clients, staff and property; is familiar with fire regulations and evacuation procedures.
- Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements.
- Escort persons off of the Health Center property who are not involved in treatment services.
- Ensure appropriate disposition and/or reporting of illegal activity on the Health Center premises
- Access emergency maintenance needs and notifies maintenance as required.
- Respond to neighborhood calls indicating Cascadia clients being disruptive in the immediate area surrounding the Health Center premises.
- Routinely review the Safety Day Orders notebook for new safety directives and policy.
- Report all graffiti to premises to the Safety Supervisor and Administrative Manager
- Call 911 when staff and the Safety Specialist concur that police assistance is required.
- Assist front desk personnel with retrieval of documents or phones or as requested, function as back-ups support
- Assist clients as requested with various needs. I.e. paperwork, assistance to rooms or locations or those exhibiting behaviors that can cause a disturbance and need further support
- Complete annual employee training requirements; attend staff meetings, and supervisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The job incumbent is required to be certified by the State of Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, (DPSST), as an Unarmed Security Professional. The Safety Specialist will not perform safety/security duties without first having completed DPSST Unarmed Security Professional training and certification.
- The Safety Specialist must maintain current DPSST Security Professional certification to retain employment in this position.
- Previous experience in safety/security and familiarity with behavioral and mental health environment is preferred
- Knowledge of behavioral and/or mental health skills an
- Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR and First Aid Certification training is provided within the first 60 days of employment. Certification must remain current.
- Perform various tasks requiring moderate physical effort: Receiving and delivering ground deliveries to the Health Centers, assisting with moving and storing of Health Centers property, and assisting disabled clients and staff.
- Periodically be expected to deal with the disposal of large garbage items, including shopping carts, left on Health Centers property.
- Coordinate assistance from other staff if any specific physical demand requires dealing with over 50 pounds.
