Role and Responsibilities:Full Time position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) filling a Senior Field Engineer position as GSE (Gas Turbine Electrical Technician) on the SDTS. The SDTS is located at San Diego, California.Position Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 8 years’ experience working as a Navy GSE or 10-12 years’ experience in a comparable field i.e., electrical, electronics or power plant operations.
  • Must be able to use test equipment (i.e., multi-meter) for troubleshooting and be able to read engineering drawings.
  • Must be able to work independently completing onboard maintenance requirements.
  • Must be able to read and understand EOSS procedures and troubleshoot electrical equipment to determine root cause failure modes.
  • Must be able to mentor subordinates and provide training instructions.
  • Must be able to support overnight underway evolutions (includes regular housekeeping/cleaning).
  • Must be able to take log readings and stand underway watches.
  • Must have basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry)
  • Must serve as member of ship’s Damage Control Fire Party.
  • Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.
  • Must have no criminal record and be able to satisfactorily complete background check.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision, perform and complete tasks with limited guidance. Able to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.
Preferred Skills:
  • EOOW, PACC, or EPCC Qualifications.
  • Experience and competence in US Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Knowledge of the operation of LM2500 Gas Turbine propulsion systems and Allison 501 K-17/34 Gas Turbine Generators and their associated support and auxiliary systems.
  • GSE “C” School.
  • Experience with CG-47 or DD-963 class ships.
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass Shipboard Fire Party School.
  • Must be able to get underway to support mission operations.
