Position HighlightsThe Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to work in the laboratory of Dr. Wondisford at the College of Medicine-Phoenix.Dr. Wondisford recently joined the College of Medicine-Phoenix to continue biomedical research projects funded by NIH. The laboratory is in the newly renovated Biomedical Science Partnership Building (BSPB) in the downtown of Phoenix along with new equipment and friendly crews.The primary focus of the research position is to molecular mechanisms of glucose homeostasis and thyroid hormones in metabolic disease such as diabetes and fatty liver disease. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in biology with a strong publication record. Prior experience in either metabolism, epigenetics, bioinformatics, or CRISPR will be preferred. Candidates must have (or expect to receive) a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be self-motivated.The candidates are expected to carry out the projects independently with minimal supervision, including designing experiments, formulating new ideas related to the projects, executing experiments proficiently and timely, and analyzing data professionally. The scientists are expected to handle multiple projects, to write scientific papers and reviews, and to present work in scientific conferences. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform independent research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Perform echocardiography, RVSP measurement on the research mice and rats.
  • Maintain mouse and rat clonies.
  • Perform tissue/cell culture, molecular biology related experiments.
  • Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
  • Participate or authors articles in peer-reviewed journals, books or chapter publications.
  • Participate or presents at meetings and conferences.
  • May co-author and may co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
  • Contribute to laboratory management including:
- Maintain and service laboratory equipment.
- Laboratory purchasing and budgeting.
- Manage biosafety requirements.
- Organize laboratory and implement procedures.
- Coordinate with building/facilities management, gas delivery, and other key research infrastructure.
  • Other additional duties assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biology Sciences or relevant field of study
Preferred Qualifications ● Single cell RNA sequencing; animal procedures; molecular biology skills.
