As a Heavy Civil Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our construction projects by accurately estimating costs and providing comprehensive bids for heavy civil engineering projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary data and ensure accurate estimates that align with project requirements and budgets.Key Responsibilities of the Estimator:
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including but not limited to highways, bridges, dams, and infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand project scope, objectives, and requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to gather information and identify potential project challenges or opportunities.
  • Utilize industry-standard estimating software and tools to generate detailed cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid proposals.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements that may impact project costs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost estimating best practices and procedures.
  • Support project teams during pre-construction and post-bid phases as needed.
Qualifications and Skills of the Estimator:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred, but not required).
  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, B2W Estimate).
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) a plus.
