WHAT IS THE POSITION
The Director, Communications will act as both a strategic individual contributor and team lead - directly accountable for internal, external, and brand communications strategy and execution, while also leading an integrating team that includes events, creative, content and social media. The Director will partner with the CMO and other key stakeholders to help craft and land the Edmentum brand story across the K-12 marketplace. As such they must have hands-on expertise within corporations (for profit, non-profit, policy/advocacy considered) that serve the K-12 market and a deep working understanding of the real-world policies and issues shaping K-12 education today, in addition to demonstrated expertise in the functional aspects of corporate and brand communications.As a team leader, the Director will be accountable for aligning team strategies and resources in support of those initiatives, while also ensuring effective support of other internal teams, including marketing, product, and the field. The Director is direct report to the CMO and is a people leader.WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • In partnership with the CMO and other key stakeholders, define and land the Edmentum brand story across marketing/communications channels, both internally and externally. Includes ownership of core brand messaging and the development and deployment of creative assets and campaigns.
  • Develop and execute a proactive external communications strategy in support of growth and brand goals, seeding key thought leadership messaging into trade media, industry conferences, and similar. Includes management of external agency partners.
  • Alongside partners in the People & Culture organization, manage internal communications and employee-facing events.
  • Lead strategy and day-to-day execution of key communications and marketing channels, including events, content, and social media.
  • Create and implement a robust social media strategy and channel management plan to drive community engagement, brand traction, and consistent channel growth.
  • Oversee content marketing and production, including thought leadership content (articles, webinars, reports, etc.), hero content (workbooks, tools, etc.), website content and search engine optimization.
  • Creative Services: Oversee our in-house creative services team, including development and maintenance of visual brand assets and guidelines.
  • Manage all assigned budget planning and spending, include external vendor contracts.
WHAT IS REQUIRED
  • 8-10+ years of professional experience in brand, marketing, communications, or related, with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Deep hands-on experience in the K-12 industry - institutional, vendor, or non-profit - with a demonstrated expertise in current and emerging issues facing K-12 schools and districts, educators, and administration.
  • Experience in ed-tech and/or broader technology industries is a significant bonus.
  • Demonstrated competency in the key functional aspects of the role - corporate communications, brand strategy and messaging, content and social media.
  • Experience working with external media and/or agency partners, including both general and trade/vertical press.
  • Must be a strong writer and communicator - writing samples may be requested as part of the interview process.
  • Maintain working knowledge of industry, market, and competitive landscape.
