DescriptionOversee and coordinate Shelter Lounge activities and support Shelter Workers.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Willingness & ability to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries
  • Support, where and when possible, the efforts of all residents and co-workers
  • Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy in the administration of policies and procedures
  • Plan and organize social and connection activities for Shelter guests
  • Maintain consistent structure in Shelter lounge
  • Update client files and case notes in data entry system
  • Assist Shelter Workers and Case Workers as required
  • Attend Public Relations events as requested
  • Give guidance, support and encouragement to volunteers
  • Organize and restock supplies
HOURS:
  • Flexibility in hours is expected & work may include evenings and weekends
  • Based on 35 hours per week for a total of 280 hours over 8 weeks
  • 2 positions available starting June/July
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Between 18-30 years of age at start of Employment as per Canada Summer Jobs Program eligibility requirements
  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public with effective communication skills
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
  • Team oriented and able to take initiative with ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule
  • High standards of integrity and confidentiality
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Possess valid Food Safe, CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis certification or willingness to obtain
  • A current valid BC driver's license and clean driving record
  • Computer and word processing ability
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
