Offer DescriptionNestlé Research (Lausanne) is recruiting a MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ITN EARLY-STAGE RESEARCHER for the project “Multiscale models for reconstitution of compacted powders” (f/m/d).The position is full-time and offered until 28/02/2025, with the possibility of extension.TUSAIL PROJECT:
The successful candidate will be embedded into a team of 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) within an Innovative Training Network (ITN) - - headed by the University of Edinburgh.The overarching research goal of is to establish physics-based modelling, starting from characterizing a small amount of a powder, to predict the behavior of large industrial unit operations and processes via reliable upscaling methodologies and tools, bridging the gap between micro-mechanics and the industrial scale. To achieve this, four interlinked work packages are employed.INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
Compaction of powdered materials is typically performed to improve properties such as bulk density, flowability, dispersibility, and stability. Using the knowledge gained through modelling and experiments these properties can be tuned by process to produce high-performance powders. A mesoscale model will be calibrated from the microscale model developed in TUSAIL and will be used for a PBM model, which considers all main particle properties, like size and size distribution, form, moisture, strength, rehydration and dissolution.OBJECTIVES
1. Develop new understanding of reconstitution of compacted powders;
2. Develop advanced meso-particle models of reconstitution of compacted powders calibrated using microscale models developed by other ESRs;
3. Scaling up to inform a macroscopic multi-dimensional PBM modelling considering main particle properties such as size and size distribution, form, moisture, strength and dissolution.RESPONSIBILITIES

Therefore, your eligibility for the post is determined by Marie Curie terms and conditions. Researchers may be either EU citizens or from outside the EU (subject to relevant immigration formalities), but applications will only be accepted from candidates who must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the date of selection by the host institution (short stays such as holidays are not taken into account). This mobility rule applies only to your first recruitment within the project, and not to other organizations to which you might be sent on secondment or at which you may subsequently also be recruited.All researchers recruited in a Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN must be Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs). A ESR shall, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, be in the first four years of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.
