This role involves constructing and troubleshooting progressive die tooling and fixtures for welding, soldering, and assembly, based on specified design prints and verbal instructions, utilizing standard tool room equipment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan operations sequences for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
  • Manufacture die components, tooling, and fixtures for welding, soldering, and assembly based on design prints and verbal instructions.
  • Collaborate with Tool Designer to assist in developing and designing new tools and dies.
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders.
  • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies as per specifications.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using measuring instruments.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Fit and assemble parts using machine tools and hand tools to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools.
  • Use layout and assembly drawings to determine fit and function of components and fully assemble dies and fixtures.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure parts meet specifications and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Select metals based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.
  • Grind and adjust various parts to fit properly.
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces using various tools.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to layout machining using instruments.
  • Set up heat-treating furnaces and place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden.
  • Adhere to safety policies, procedures, and regulations, maintaining a clean work area.
  • Follow EMS and IATF 16949 Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; technical/trade school graduation preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Tool Maker in a metal stamping environment.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal/external personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of metals and alloys properties.
  • Familiarity with shimming techniques and tool fabricating accessories.
  • Ability to operate hoists.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Working Hours: M-F, 6-2:30
