Steel Fabrication ManagerThe Fabrication Manager works closely with the plant Operations Manager, Sales and the Fabrication department to efficiently produce quality parts and ship on-time to customers. The Fabrication Manager is responsible for scheduling, logistics and developing cost estimates on fabricated steel products, ensuring a quality finished product. This position will oversee 2 supervisors, a small team of CAD drafters, estimators, and a combination of 2-D table lasers, saws, and presses and their respective operators.Responsibilities:
  • Works with Operations manager to schedule and order material from the cut-to-length line
  • Responsible for ensuring material to be cut is staged and ready for machines.
  • Determine labor, material, and time requirements by studying blueprints and specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates associated with producing a new product.
  • Update costs on existing products based on collected data and current material costs.
  • Enter sales orders, create work orders, schedule work orders, and complete work orders.
  • Time study processes and update estimates based on real time data collected.
  • Work closely with sales, purchasing, and management to develop competitive costs.
  • Work directly with customers & engineers to obtain details and understand the customer expectations.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Prior experience in Steel Fabrication preferred.
  • Strong leadership qualities in order to lead the fab department in the office and in the shop.
  • Able to read blueprints and understand tolerances.
  • Proven measurement and mathematical fractional/decimal conversion skills.
  • Able to distinguish material types and specifications.
  • Candidate must be a strong team player.
  • Candidate has to be reliable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • A high school graduate or GED equivalent w/ English language fluency.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD, AutoCAD or Solidworks is preferred
  • Solid Windows based PC & mathematical skills.
  • Must be able to work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Extremely detail-oriented individual committed to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skill are needed.
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Prior estimating experience is preferred.
