We are seeking environmentally friendly and energetic individuals who are committed to protecting and preserving Pennsylvania's resources through the regulation of air, water, waste, mining, radiation sources, and oil and gas.DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe Environmental Trainee program offers a comprehensive 12-month training opportunity for individuals looking to become environmental inspectors in a specific field. Trainees will receive hands-on training to understand the responsibilities of an environmental inspector, including learning about relevant regulations and policies. Throughout the program, trainees will work alongside experienced employees to conduct inspections at various facilities, such as Safe Drinking Water, Storage Tanks, Wastewater Treatment Plants, and Air Quality inspections.While travel is a requirement for these positions, overnight stays are typically not necessary. Applicants must have a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as they may need to drive DEP vehicles to inspection sites. Inspections may involve navigating through challenging terrains and carrying testing equipment, so physical fitness and agility are essential for this role.Upon successful completion of the Environmental Trainee program, employees often advance to higher-level positions with specialized roles or supervisory responsibilities within the environmental inspection field.   • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Meadville.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $ 44,010.00(before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
