AtkinsRéalis has the depth and breadth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects and the urgent transition to a low-carbon economy.About You:In this Senior Structural Engineer/ Project management role, you will participate in a wide range of exciting projects by leading design for simple and complex bridges, culverts, retaining walls, overhead gantries, other structures on highway, transit, rail, airport, and trail projects. You will be an integral team member for managing and growing AtkinsRéalis’ transportation business with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA).How your experience will contribute to the team:
  • Business Development and Work Winning:
  • Be a dedicated business builder who will utilize existing relationships to identify and pursue business opportunities as well as recruit top technical staff.
  • Possess a background in winning and serving clients on major projects, a sound technical background, excellent communication and organizational skills and thorough knowledge and understanding of New Jersey details and standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, both public and private, as well as representatives of local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Leverage existing and develop new NJDOT and NJTA relationships to identify and pursue business opportunities.
  • Work with leadership to promote design excellence, provide leadership and mentoring while driving the strategic plan for the office.
  • Play a key role leading pursuits and writing proposals for NJDOT and NJTA.
  • Define scope of project, with full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and executing project assignments.
  • Technical Expert
  • Select problems for investigation, develop novel approaches and solutions to technical problems.
  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art methods and developments in area of specialization.
  • Recommend changes or improvements to plans and programs.
  • May function as the project manager for routine to semi-complex projects.
  • Responsibilities may include supporting the following: marketing, negotiating contracts, budgeting, financial management, schedule coordination and resources allocation.
  • Help support other offices within the region to fulfill current project needs while planning the future of our New Jersey business.
  • Project and People Management:
  • Engage with personnel by reviewing and evaluating workload, resource planning, project performance, and business development opportunities.
  • Assist project staff in developing work plans; reviews and approves schedules, budgets, project milestone dates, and work products.
  • Oversee financial performance of projects; assist project staff in identifying potential problems to ensure remedial actions are promptly taken to avoid financial losses and client dissatisfaction.
  • Serve as a technical manager and/or project manager for projects; provide technical oversight.
  • Conduct quality control checks, reviewing calculations, designs, evaluations, and specifications developed by design staff for accuracy and completeness, performing on-site inspections and reviews, and conducting or overseeing remedial design work.
  • Perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
Role Requirements
  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Engineering with a concentration in Structures
  • 15-20 years of relevant experience.
  • P.E. license (preferably NJ)
  • SE License is desirable.
  • Experience leading transportation design projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation and New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
  • Existing NJDOT and/or NJTA relationships
  • Proficiency of Structural Design of Highway Bridges and other highway-related structures
  • Experience with other types of bridges (railroad, pedestrian, etc.) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, public speaking, and persuasive ability.
  • Technical design, writing, computer, and communication skills are required.
  • Intermediate proficiency of CAD is required.
  • Experience with MicroStation is desirable.
  • Experience with managing people, project scope, budget and schedule are desirable.
