SUMMARY OF THE ROLEOur modern headquarters in Sandefjord, Europe's largest privately owned R&D center, houses almost 300 specialists. We now have two open positions for R&D Chemists at Jotun Performance Coatings Research and Development.We are seeking skilled and innovative Research and Development Chemists to join our team. As a Research and Development Chemist, you will play a crucial role in developing new technology platforms and methodologies. You will be able to work on various projects and collaborate with a dynamic team of chemists, engineers, and other professionals.Position 1: R&D Chemist - Technology Department.The successful candidate will work in the Jotun Performance Coatings R&D Technology department. This position's primary focus is developing new technology platforms, methodologies, and insights for marine and protective coatings.Position 2: R&D Chemist - Topcoat Products R&D.The successful candidate will work in the Jotun Performance Coatings Topcoat Products R&D department. The primary focus of this position is to develop products for the wind turbine industry. The applicant must be willing to travel abroad for a shorter or longer period.Responsibilities:Carry out required development and maintenance tasks by planning, formulating, testing, and evaluating recipes and raw materials. This is carried out in consultation with the Manager project/technical leaders and in accordance with the R&D plan.Report the results from development and maintenance work both orally and written to ensure that the correct decisions, based on current experience, are made.Search for and make use of knowledge through literature, practical experience, learning from others as well as attending courses to be able to work more independently with more complex R&D tasks.Have recipe responsibility for assigned products through maintenance and following up towards production and marketing departments to ensure that the quality of the product satisfies the market requirements and according to environmental regulations (position 2).Participate in project work and project groups with professional input and assume a leading role in project work with enough experience.Knowledge and use of the necessary safety equipment as described and to take into consideration general safety; this includes being able to understand the content and the meaning of safety data sheets.Attend to the daily order in the laboratory so that the workspace is tidy, safe and pleasant.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND WHAT WE OFFERQualifications:Master’s degree or PhD in Chemistry or material sciences or relevant physics field.Work experience in chemical research and development is desired.Strong knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation is a benefit.Proficient in safe use of laboratory techniques and equipment.Proficiency in verbal and written English.Proficiency in MS Office 365 and Teams/SharePoint is considered an advantage.Personal qualifications:Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Take initiative, make things happen and take responsibility for the results.Demonstrates specialist knowledge and expertise in own area; participates in continuous professional development.Produces fresh and imaginative ideas and solutions; breaks away from tradition; promotes change and novelty.Enthusiasm for hands-on lab work.Willingness to travel.Strong verbal and written communication skills.We can offer:A friendly and supportive culture.
