- Utilize extraordinary time management skills to juggle multiple projects, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
- Develop new product formulas and rework existing products to bringing to bear your knowledge of ingredients, market trends and the skin care and cosmetic industry.
- Run stability tests
- Submit/check/modify ingredient listings
- Lead and train junior chemists
- Coordinate, as necessary, any work with outside chemists on new formulations.
- Work with our Director of QC and Compliance to ensure all SOPs and GMPs are in place and strictly adhered to.
- Coordinate with our Director of QC and Compliance, as well as outside facilities to ensure appropriate product testing.
- Work closely with Regulatory, QC & Compliance to ensure FDA compliance in the tasks that you perform on a daily basis, and be mindful of other compliance issues that are outside of your direct responsibilities. Advise on needed changes and identify irregularities.
- Oversee pilot batch and new product production to ensure that process instructions are optimal.
- Proactively review and advise as to what process you see being needed or revised to make the lab function optimally.
- Assist in collecting and providing technical information to appropriate marketing personnel for preparation of presentations, and attend meetings when necessary
- Attend certain trade shows like HBA and set-up and attend meetings with both existing and new accounts as necessary
- Develop expertise with our software systems, or other systems and platforms as may be required.
- Share any knowledge you may have with improving the way we order raw ingredients and assist in this area.
- Interact with product development team(s) and regularly review PDRs and target ship dates.
- Meet with raw material vendors regularly to remain on the cutting edge.
- Proactively review and advise as to what process you see being needed or revised to make the lab function optimally.
- Ensure that you and your staff are cross-trained in your domain and areas of expertise in the event you are absent from your job.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related discipline. Advanced degree is a plus.
- 8+ years of formulation experience.
- Working experience in developing innovative skin/hair/OTC products
- Thorough understanding of cosmetic raw materials and latest technologies
- Thorough understanding of laboratory and scale-up production equipment
- Knowledge of cosmetic manufacturing practices and operations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Must have confidence to mentor junior chemists.
