Job Description:We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join our team. This role will report to Business Unit Environment and Sustainability Manager and can be based in Wellington or Palmerston North.You will lead environmental compliance on the Defence Contracts; ensuring RMA compliance; ensuring compliance to environmental legislation and providing technical support, coaching and mentoring to the site based Operations teams.Responsibilities:The role has a broad remit, with key responsibilities outlined below:
  • The success and achievement of the position is measured on the compliance of each site to the required RMA; the proactive management of issues; and ensuring ongoing compliance through internal audits and direction to site management.
  • Work with the National Asset and Compliance Manager and the site Facility Managers to develop site specific Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and Environmental Risk Registers.
  • Conduct auditing activities to ensure adequate implementation of the EMP requirements, according to the Contract audit and verification schedule.
  • Provide guidance to the Operations teams in responding to and coordinating a response and mitigating ecological and regulatory impacts of environmental incidents.
  • Coach and train Operation team members in conducting investigations to root cause, developing SMART preventive actions, and sharing lessons learnt with the business in line with the company's philosophy of continuous improvement.
  • Lead monthly environmental and sustainability reporting processes for the Defence contract for SICS business unit.
Qualifications:What you'll bring
  • A Formal qualification in an Environmental discipline to at least NZQA Level 4.
  • Understanding of and management of site RMA requirements and other NZ legislation.
  • Previous experience of practical application and implementation of environmental process and disciplines in an operations environment.
  • Conversant with and ability to influence environmental outcomes in planning and implementation stages of work activities, with the aim of creating a Zero Harm culture.
  • Experience in environmental auditing and verification protocols aimed at attaining third party accreditations.
