  • No experience necessary, our current kitchen staff are trained and experienced and willing to train the right candidate!
Purpose of your job position:
The primary purpose of your job position is to prepare food for the Assisted Living as directed/instructed, in accordance with established dietary policies and sanitary procedures and in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, and/or the Director of Dining Services, to assure that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis, and that your department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.Delegation of Authority:As a Cook, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.Job Functions:Every effort has been made to make your job description as complete as possible. However, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform.Major Duties & Responsibilities:· Review menus prior to preparation of food and allocate time to tasks appropriately.· Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus, including items that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.· Keep work area clean and assist in daily and scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.· Assist in plating and serving resident meals for Dining Room.· Serve food or beverages to residents in Main Dining Room in a friendly and courteous manner.· Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures, assuring that worktables and utensils are clean and readily available for next meal.· Other duties that may become necessary, or as directed by your department manager and/or the Executive Director.Personnel FunctionsFollow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing your assigned tasks.Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisor.Notify your supervisor if needing to leave the facility during your scheduled shift.Report all complaints and grievances made by the residents.Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other facility personnel to assure that nursing services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.Safety & SanitationPrepare all food in accordance with sanitary regulations, and established policies and procedures.Assure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing dietary procedures.Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor. Report all accidents or incidents as established by department policies.Follow all safely regulations at all times. Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.Assist in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.Dispose of food and waste daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures.Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, and free of spilled liquid.Others that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.Equipment & Supply FunctionsFollow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.Assure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of your shiftKeep supervisor informed of supply needs. Assist in inventorying and storing of incoming food and supplies as necessary.Assure that an adequate supply of food, utensils, and other supplies are readily available for the next meal, day, or shift.Operate all equipment in a safe manner. Use only the equipment and supplies necessary to do the job. Do not be wasteful.Report defective equipment to the appropriate personnel.Resident RightsMaintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident information to ensure resident's rights are protected.Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.Knock before entering a resident's room.Honor the residents' personal preferences and food requests.Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Director of Dining Experience or the Executive Director.Working Conditions:Works in well-lighted and ventilated areas, as well as throughout the nursing services area (i.e., nurses' stations, residents' rooms, etc.).Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.Is subject to frequent interruptions.Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.Communicates with all personnel throughout the Assisted Living.Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.Is willing to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, on any and all units as assigned, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday.Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including exposure to the HIV and Hepatitis B viruses.May be exposed to sudden temperature changes and extreme hot and cold temperatures in kitchen and storage areas.May be required to work on shifts other than the one hired.May be required to work on weeks and holidays.RequirementsEducational/Experience Requirements:Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or the equivalent.One year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility is preferred.Must have Food Service Sanitation Certificate or be willing to take Food Service Sanitation Class.Physical Requirements:Must be able to meet all physical demands of the job which includes, but is not limited to: seeing, speaking, touching, walking, standing, bending, and reaching overhead, crouching/kneeling or crawling.Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a physical examination.Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile people within the facility.Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs. force.Specific Requirements:Comply with all personnel policies, community policies & procedures, as well as State & Federal regulations and standards.Must possess a genuine interest in caring for seniors.Ability to work well with others and take direction from management, as well as take initiative - willing to go above and beyond to ensure our residents' needs are met and they are comfortable in their living environment.Conduct oneself in a professional & caring manner and encourage others to do so as well.Dependable and able to meet scheduling requirements with no restrictions.Must possess a general knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding senior living care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.Staff Development:Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes.Attend and participate in scheduled orientation programs and activities.Attend and participate in in-services and continuing education programs as scheduled/directed. Must have a minimum of 12 hours of in-services/continuing education classes per year.
