San Luis Obispo County Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting applications for temporary/seasonal Aquatics Coordinators!
The Aquatics Coordinator plays a key role in managing and operating pools, beaches, and lakes within the community.The position oversees the day-to-day activities, ensuring the highest safety standards, and coordinating various aquatic programs to support community engagement. The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for testing, training, and supervising aquatic personnel and fostering a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.TYPICAL TASKS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  • Evaluates accidents and rescues by lifeguard staff.
  • Provides supervision and support for all lifeguard staff.
  • Renders emergency care and support to lifeguards.
  • Leads staff in-service training.
  • Coordinates the information stream to community users and acts as a liaison between the Park Operations Coordinator and lifeguards.
  • Develops schedules for staff, open recreation swim, and aquatic programs.
  • Coordinates and oversees operations of aquatic programs.
  • Oversees the collection of all revenue from swimming pools. Reconciles and delivers deposits to the Park Operations Coordinator.
  • Interpret, explain, and enforce rules, policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the daily operations related to swimming pools and beach areas.
  • Assigns, prioritizes and ensures completion of all tasks.
  • Assists in pool chemistry tests and ensures meeting health code guidelines.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleaning of aquatic facilities.
  • Lifeguards when required to ensure safety of public and staff.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates the performance of lifeguards.
  • Administrative duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is:
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possesses excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Has the ability to react quickly and effectively in emergencies and activate facility Emergency Action Plans.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience working in an aquatic facility; and
Three years of supervisory/leadership experienceTwo years of experience as a Lifeguard I/II or equivalent is preferred.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Must possess valid certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Title 22 First Aid. EMT certification may be subsisted for the CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Title 22 requirements. In addition, the most qualified applicants will possess valid certifications for Lifeguarding Instructor, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer Instructor, and/or First Aide/AED/CPR Instructor training.Applications, including answers to supplemental questions, must be submitted online by the final filing date. Employees in these classifications are required to work irregular hours, holidays, and weekends.
