JOB SUMMARYThe Patrons Services Librarian performs patrons services outreach. Work is performed under the supervision of the Library Director and is evaluated through observation completed assignments conferences and feedback from librarians and the public.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSCirculation Supervises part-time circulation staff: preparing schedules interpreting library policies and procedures resolving problems and evaluating performances. Responds to patron concerns regarding late fees that have accrued claims returned items or items that they claim were never checked out. Performs item cataloging for all magazines and weeds those at the end of their cycle. Prepares the Library's bank deposits reconciling daily receipts with actual intake. Schedules the use of meeting rooms and collects associated fees. Outreach Plan develop implement and evaluate community engagement and outreach programming for patrons of all ages and backgrounds Coordinate outreach and community relations activities Prepare and submit grant applications project proposals and funding requests to support community engagement and outreach programs and services Develop and maintain a collection of books materials and equipment needed for outreach and engagement Supervise the activities of the adult outreach and youth outreach assistants. Other Maintains knowledge of current trends and practices of public libraries in general by attending webinars workshops and conferences. Supervises all library operations on occasion as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation/Experience: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school and experience inLibrary work at the professional level as well as supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.Licenses or Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Public Librarian Certificate issued by the NC Public Librarian Certification Commission.
Special Requirements:Must be able to work flexible hours; including evenings and weekends.KSA DetailsKnowledge; Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of local government operations; policies and plans; and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word; Excel; PowerPoint; and other similar programs.
  • Knowledge of library cataloging practices and procedures including the Dewey Decimal System and the library loan software program and services.
  • Knowledge of the library's books; reference materials; periodicals; audiovisual materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Perry Library policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of electronic information systems including applications used for reference; the internet; email; etc.
  • Skill in customer service and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers; volunteers; library patrons and the general public.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the widely varying patron demographic groups and their special needs.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others; and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry; word processing; and accounting purposes.
  • Ability to operate a copying machine.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment DetailsPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Tasks may require the following abilities: stooping; climbing; balancing; kneeling; crouching; reaching; standing; walking; grasping; feeling; pulling; pushing; lifting; fingering; talking; hearing and repetitive motions.
