The Second Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for a Judicial Specialist position within Court Administration. The position provides courtroom and judicial officer support.
Starting salary within the listed range is based upon relevant experience and education.To be successful in this position you will need to have the following:

  • Ability to assist Judges, Attorneys, and Litigants.
  • The ability to adapt to various situations with court personnel and/or the public.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • General knowledge of audio/visual systems, video conferencing systems, digital video and audio recording equipment.
  • Critical thinking skills, and the ability to problem solve.
Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the presiding judge and court administration.
The following are examples of job duties this position is expected to perform:
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties supporting the efficient operations of the court.
  • Assists with the court's calendar, court attends hearings and jury trials.
  • Will assist the District, Associate and Magistrate courts.
  • Ensure courtrooms have fully functioning audio and visual systems.
  • Create and maintain user guides on audio/visual courtroom technologies.
  • Provide support to judicial officers, attorneys, and litigants with video conferencing technology.
  • Assist with the scheduling of hearings and trials requiring technology (Zoom, Remote witness and/or parties, etc.)
  • Effectively operate and manage digital recording management software.
  • Organize and maintain digitally recorded court proceedings.
  • Travel within the district as needed for jury trial coverage.

Successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license.Preference may be given to applicants with general knowledge of audio/visual systems, video conferencing systems, digital video and audio recording equipment, A/V infrastructure, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Owls Video Conferencing. Preference will be given to candidates whose work experience provides evidence of strong customer service skills; sound professional judgment; the ability to work cooperatively with team members; and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.This is a non-merit position. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.Minimum Qualification RequirementsGraduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority, additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor's Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience. Must be bondable.
