Offer DescriptionApplications are invited for a 2-year Researcher position at the Njord Centre, a cross-disciplinary research unit at the interface between Physics and Geosciences at the University of Oslo. This position will also be part of the Centre of Excellence (SFF) PoreLab in Oslo.This position is open in the project "Uncovering the coupled fluid and solid dynamics driving highly-localized rupture in geomaterials (UNLOC)" funded by the Research Council of Norway (NFR).In UNLOC, we will investigate how geomaterials rapidly lose their capacity to withstand stress at the onset of geohazards such as earthquakes or landslides. The incipient stage of these catastrophic events corresponds to the formation and rapid propagation of a slip surface characterized by intense strain rate and highly localized deformation. The complexity of geomaterials sits in their microstructures made of a solid matrix - that can be either continuous, fractured, or granular - and interstitial fluids that fill the pore space. In UNLOC, we will perform fundamental research to unveil the coupled solid and fluid dynamics at the pore scale that governs dynamic strain localization.
