ScheduleMon- FriOverviewUnder the direction of the manger this position is responsible for growing and maintaining a loan portfolio of both Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans. It meets with new and existing business members to provide business products, services, and lending. It communicates both verbally and in writing, in-depth analyses of new and existing loans to identify credit opportunities. Monitors the financial health of the loan portfolio and addresses issues in a prompt and thorough manner. Provides excellent and professional service. This position contributes to the organizational deposit and product growth through effective sales. It actively participates in meetings with management and staff to improve operations.Responsibilities1. Growing the commercial loan portfolio and generating new lending opportunities.a. Solicits new business for middle to corporate market CRE and C&I loans, as well as SBA guaranteed loans.b. Has a strong existing network of brokers and other centers of influence for business development.c. Represents credit union commercial lending department at community events, professional organizations, and networking opportunities.d. Focuses on the largest and most complex loan requests of the credit union.e. Expected to understand and successfully manage complex credits requests.f. Works with business partners in the credit union. Contacts and visits with new leads.g. Contributes to deposit growth by cross selling and promoting additional credit union products.h. Maintains excellent relationships with existing clients. Meets needs and expands relationships.i. Interviews applicants and recommends underwriting of customer applications for commercial loans.j. Analyzes applicant financial status and credit to determine feasibility of granting loan.2. Ensures professional business relations with members, vendors, and trade professionals.a. Represents the Credit Union. Ensures that the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.
b. Establishes and maintains professional business relations.c. Provides high quality service to members and business/trade professionals.d. Ensures that requests, questions, and problems are courteously and professionally addressed. Resolves concerns or promptly refers requests to the appropriate party.e. Obtains and conveys information as needed.f. Maintains confidentiality.3. Managing the credit quality of existing portfolio:a. Actively manages and mines for new opportunities in a commercial portfolio more than $200 million.b. Monitors and contacts borrowers on delinquent loan payments and other identified issues.c. Writes Credit Memorandums on issues or changes to assigned loans.d. Fully understands the importance of early identifying issues a loan may have as the first line of defense and address such issues quickly, accurately and consistently and recommends proper actions the credit union should take to protect America First Credit Union assets and deposits.e. Negotiates collection arrangements as needed.f. Communicates all issues on loans to management.4. Financial and background analysis of new commercial business loan requests and existing business loans.a. Gathers complete financial information for all borrowers and guarantors.b. Performs comprehensive financial analysis on the most complex loan structures, collateral, and borrower structure. Communicates a complete understanding of primary, secondary, and tertiary sources of repayment.c. Underwrites loans, clearly stating credit worthiness and risks.d. Sets forth proposed loan structure to preserve credit quality and be competitive in the market.e. Follows all policies and procedures in preparing loan recommendation for loan review committee. Presents loan and recommendations to committee.f. Ensures all files are complete and in filing order for review by the Loan Administration Department.5. Financial review of existing commercial business loans.a. Uses gathered information in lending review and financial covenant measurement.b. Gives insight on loan performance and recommends future actions. Discusses with borrower any issues of non-compliance on loan covenants.c. Oversees the workflow and quality of work for assigned underwriter, portfolio officer, credit analyst, and processor.d. Negotiates with potential borrowers regarding loan terms and pricing with little assistance from management. Expected to negotiate in a manner that helps the borrower meet their needs, and also protect credit union assets.e. Follows all policies and procedures in preparing loan reviews for loan review committee. Presents review and recommendations to committee.f. Communicates effectively and succinctly with executive management of the credit union.g. Expected to be proactive in monitoring loan portfolio of any developing credit issues. Will work with borrower on covenant violations, securing additional collateral, or liquidation if necessary.h. Must be highly knowledgeable of credit policy and it’s accepted limits.6. Other related duties as required.a. Expected to train and mentor junior loan officers on issues of credit and prospecting.b. Completes tasks and special projects as assigned.c. Ensures that work areas are clean, secure, and well maintained.QualificationsTraining/Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business required, but commensurate work experience in commercial lending can be considered in lieu of degree.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in a business field preferred.
Required Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with Credit Union products and processes. (CSAIR, TALON, Oracle Teller Pro, HostLink, Instant membership, LoanPro, Imaging, OnDemand).
  • Understanding of accounting, financial statements, banking and GAAP requirements
  • Understanding of business analysis, credit worthiness, and underwriting.
  • Understanding of MS Office and financial analysis software.
  • Understanding of training and development processes.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial lending experience.
  • Experience reading, dissecting, and interpreting financial statements.
  • Experience interviewing, underwriting, and presenting commercial loans.
  • Sales Experience. Experience seeking out and generating new business.
