Position SummaryThe Theatre and Dance Department of Indiana University South Bend is seeking a Visiting Lecturer for an appointment of up to two years. The Department, housed in the vibrant Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, is a professionally engaged community of theatre makers with the goal of helping each of our students find their most trained, flexible, creative, and unique artist within while preparing them for further study in graduate school and/or work in the professional theatre world. The department offers a BA in Theatre and BFA programs in Musical Theatre Performance, as well as Design and Technical Production. The Theatre and Dance Department produces 2-4 productions per academic year including our children's theatre series, which has been a beloved tradition in the community for nearly 60 years.Faculty Responsibilities Summary:1) The Visiting Lecturer will split their time teaching two classes per semester with the remainder of their time serving as the Technical Director/Scene Shop Supervisor for the Theatre and Dance Department.
2) This faculty member will teach courses within their specialty as well as general theatre courses. The possible courses include: Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, and Practicum as well as others determined by need and knowledge base.
3) This faculty member will be responsible for serving as Technical Director for all department co-curricular productions. This position will be responsible for advising and mentoring students on co-curricular production work in areas of expertise including supervising student workers and Lab students in the Scene shop and during technical rehearsals. The Technical Director will oversee the operation and maintenance of the scenic construction and storage facilities including maintaining the operating budget for the scene shop and student labor.
4) This faculty member will be expected to contribute to department recruitment efforts and serve on at least one School of the Arts committee per academic year.Teaching Responsibilities:Faculty will be responsible for teaching courses within specialty as well as campus and department-serving general education courses. In addition, faculty member will be responsible for serving as Technical Director, mentoring students, teaching students best practices and safety in the scene shop and while building scenery, etc., as a part of our co-curricular production season.Details of Service:1) This role will be responsible for participating in recruitment efforts, advising students and membership and committee work with at least one School of the Arts committee per academic year.

Basic Qualifications1) Excellent communication skills.
2) Budgeting and time management skills.
3) General computer skills and proficiency in Vectorworks.
4) Professional production experience.
5) M.A. in Theatre, Theatre Technology, Theatre Design, or related field, or equivalent work experience.Preferred Qualifications:1) M.F.A. in Theatre in Design and/or Technical Production; or related field with experience in university and/or professional theatre, preferred.
2) Experience teaching at the University level, preferred.
3) Additional related skillsets in any one or more of the following areas: stage management, production management, projections, preferred.
