Serves as Specialty Crew Leader in Holly Hill. Assists the Specialty Crew Foreman with various construction, repair, and preservation activities of roads and bridges within District Seven. Ensures employees within the crew(s) complete all CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating CDL vehicles. Helps conduct training for employees. Directs crew in supervisor's absence. Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium and heavy duty equipment in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Examples include grading, setting forms, driving piles, installing and tying rebar, pouring/finishing concrete, performing work on damaged steel, concrete, and timber, etc. These activities occur in and around bodies of water (in emergency situations, swimming may be necessary). Inputs data and runs reports in the maintenance data management system for crews and performs QA/QC checks on the data to ensure accuracy of the reports. Control stock inventory of repair materials. Maintain and utilize all required safety and environmental equipment and documents as pertains to self and crew. This includes hard hats, safety vest, safety harnesses, fire extinguishers, etc. Keep updated Safety Data Sheets in vehicles as required. Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records to include, but not be limited to, HMMS, Stockpile Management, Inspection Reports, etc. Completes job hazard analysis forms, mitigates risks, and conducts safety meeting prior to the commencement of work activities to inform the crew of the hazards associated with the work to be performed. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to ward motorists. Keep assigned equipment properly maintained and ensure this equipment is up to date with the Department's preventative maintenance system. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two and one half (2.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Works 40 hours per week under normal conditions. Works outside in heavy traffic and all weather conditions. Works overtime as necessary. Non Discrimination Statement:
