Are you ready to take the next step?Service Engineer - Engine Controls, Energy BusinessThe Wärtsilä Energy Business - North Region team has a vacancy for a Service Engineer, Engine Controls.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Solve technical and operational problems at our customer's power plants.
  • Support preventative maintenance activities according to maintenance programs.
  • Support New Build and Commissioning teams on project delivery.
  • Manage and maintain good relationships with the customer during work execution.
  • Participate in customer meetings as local support for electrical and automation scope.
  • Create service work reports and other relevant documentation related to site or customer visits.
  • Be able to travel to our customer facilities for service attendance within Canada, US and the Caribbean.
  • Be on service jobs about 80% of the year
Desired Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Controls & Automation or Electrical Engineering or equivalent diploma
Desired Skills and ExperienceThe candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years' work experience with:
  • PLC development, programming and troubleshooting: Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider etc.
  • Understanding of function blocks and ladder diagrams
  • HMI: Wonderware and other applicable systems
  • Understanding of various industrial networks and protocols
  • Proficient on Modbus TCP, Profibus, CAN-bus, CIP, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNET, ControlNET, Industrial Ethernet
  • Advance programming of firewalls and routers
  • Woodward control systems for diesel and gas engines
  • Reciprocating Gas Engine Control Systems (MAN, MaK, Caterpillar, Bergen etc)
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills
  • Good electrical knowledge
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong focus on safety protocols and QEHS standards
  • Project management skills
Travel Requirements: This position requires a 70% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location.
