Description :Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse - Wound CareWound Care Experience PreferredCoordinates wound care therapy into the total nursing care plan for patients; participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. This is a non-exempt position.RESPONSIBILITIESPatient Care
  • Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • Assesses the patient’s skin condition and wound care needs upon admission and weekly; sets goals; recommends appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, charge nurse and/or Wound Care Specialist) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Participates in team conferences in development of individualized nursing care plans as they relate to wound care.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments to assigned patients within the wound care environment.
  • Determines appropriate bed surfaces upon admission and PRN.
  • Directs and evaluates nursing care provided to patients undergoing wound care.
  • Assists physicians with special tests and procedures.
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Participates in orientation of new personnel.
  • Helps coordinate nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
  • Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals.
  • Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest or emergencies relating to the wound care environment.
  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  • Coordinates and performs physician-ordered patient wound care.
  • Restocks wound care cart; ensures its contents are current, with no outdated supplies.
Unit Responsibilities
  • Participates in unit quality assurance and improvement.
  • Participates in hospital committees as designated.
  • Attends mandatory hospital education and unit meetings.
  • Adheres to and enforces hospital dress code policy.
  • Actively participates in the identification of areas for improvement and participates in the improvement process.
  • Provides education for Clinical Staff quarterly.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Training: Holds current Licensed Vocational Nursing License for the state in which the employee is working. Certification from approved Wound Care Certification course is preferred. Has current CPR certification and maintains same.Experience: Two years direct patient care experience required. Experience in wound care preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.
  • Performs moderate physical work exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds of force on an occasional basis, performing such activities as fingering, grasping, carrying, lifting, holding, reaching, opening, pulling, pushing, speaking, hearing, walking, and writing.
  • Performs the described duties through the use of appropriate equipment.
