This is an exempt level position.Job Summary:
The Plant Superintendent will coordinate and oversee day to day activities of processing operations at the Indianola, IA, facility. This position is responsible for the safe, successful and progressive day to day operational activities as well as maintaining a safe and sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies, government regulations and regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to, OSHA, EPA, DNR, FDA, USDA, , HACCP, FSMA, etc. This position reports to the Plant Manager.Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure successful day to day operation of the processing facility in the areas of safety, quality and production
- Assist the Plant Manager in guiding and managing the manufacturing process
- Respond to plant, process, personnel, product and environmental emergencies
- Assist in troubleshooting production issues, controlling costs and optimizing yields and productivity
- Manage the performance of shift team leaders and provide guidance as well as production expectations
- Provide leadership for colleague development as well as establish and achieve plant goals
- Engage in the management of policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, food safety, sanitation and quality policies and procedures
- Work with commercial and logistics groups to set production schedules
- Monitor production schedules to ensure completed products are shipped on time and in accordance with customer expectations
- Coordinate preventive maintenance scheduling to ensure equipment is maintained in conjunction with the production schedule and commercial demands
- Work with engineering regarding capital expenditures in addition to investigating potential cost savings projects
- Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/5 operation
- Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills
- Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating, instructing and training personnel in a fair, honest and direct way
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- General computer skills, including experience with MS Office

- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred or related discipline or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 plus years of production and supervisory experience
- Demonstrated strong commitment and leadership in plant health and safety, quality and food safety and environmental programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage a food processing facility employing GMP and HACCP methodologies
- Ability to achieve and track excellence using performance driven metrics
- Technical competence in mechanics, instrumentation, controls, calculations and utility systems
- Ability to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, employ excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines and strive for continuous improvement along with holding high expectations for direct reports
- Ability to effectively manage time for optimal results

- Spring/Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain and wind
- Fall/Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather, including freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind
- Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift
- Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
- Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare; employees are required to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds
- Ability to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day
- Ability to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standing
- Ability to operate equipment or diagnose/detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights
- Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment as well as move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings
