REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory OR equivalent education/experience
  • Current Medical Laboratory Scientist certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent certifying organization; or certification with specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 or equivalent experience
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help design processes to adapt ELISA platform and related assays to multiplex bead platforms, and perform experiments on both platforms
  • Design or adapt and carry out experiments characterizing antibodies and immunoglobulins, involved in autoimmune diseases and tumor immunology using immunocapture, mass spectrometry and capillary electrophoresis
  • Write reports describing experimental results, prepare detailed protocols describing laboratory methods, and present experimental results at laboratory meetings
  • Perform selected clinical assays in clinical immunology laboratory
  • Ability to perform and provide high-level support for moderate to high complexity procedures and interpretations, including immunology assays.
  • Provide direction to laboratory staff and students; and exercise expertise in development/evaluation/performance of new or specialty procedures.
  • Develop and/or evaluate new procedures; perform all defined specialty procedures requiring in-depth knowledge and expertise;
  • Maintain and participate in design of organization of laboratory including chemical and biological safety, ordering, and processing orders;
  • Writing, editing, and submission of internal reports and protocols for staff to follow.
  • Use of manual and automated pipets, use of microtiter plate and multiplex bead platform instruments, follow pre-existing laboratory protocols precisely and consistently, ability to use fluorescence microscope.
  • Document protocols for quantitative and qualitative antibody detection in Immunology division specimens;
  • Prepare reagents used in development laboratory assays;
  • Develop novel assays, modifying and refining procedures to obtain optimal results;
  • Assist in identifying project goals, and initiate small to moderate size program/projects;
  • Organize and prioritize work day and work flow appropriately.
  • Optimize protocols and troubleshoot experiments to generate relevant data and improve data quality;
  • Observe work of other staff to ensure that procedures are followed, interacting collaboratively with staff to accomplish team goals and improve group efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Organize and schedule in-service for staff; maintain records of staff training;
  • Act as resource to all Medical Laboratory Scientist staff in Immunology in quality control and troubleshooting of instruments and procedures;
  • Develop and evaluate new procedures and instruments;
  • Revise and submit updated clinical laboratory test procedures for approval;
  • Inventory laboratory reagents and consumable items; submit supply orders for approval;
  • Perform duties of MLS1
