- Develop increased geometric design ability and quality within the function group.
- Able to organise information well and communicate design intent through software tool output e.g. structure a drawing correctly and communicate design intent through drawing using CAD.
- Draft technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
- Provide technical solutions and develop an appreciation of outcomes.
- Taking ownership and responsibility for their own work and completing it in time and at cost.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel and check and take responsibility for the work of others.
- Supervises a small team of Engineers/Technicians and ensures effective utilisation of team members.
- Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Quality assurance throughout the project life cycle.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and on budget and managing all or sections of projects
- Good software tool understanding whilst working with minimum supervision to produce deliverables.
- Understands the principles of the design process and how design is translated into deliverables through the use of software tools.
- Able to present/represent their technical work as well as a present service offering to potential clients and present technical work at technical conferences.
- Understands the key project issues and how these influence their individual work.
- Submission of Expression of Interest EOIs, RFQ’s, tenders, and Proposals for the function and to provide input into large infrastructure projects as required.
- Ability to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications.
- Work on multiple projects/contracts at the same time.
- Build, develop and, grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
- Bachelor of Engineering or B.Tech degree from an accredited University/University of Technology.
- Professional registration with ECSA is essential.
- Minimum 1 year of post-professional registration experience.
- Ability to effectively write technical reports.
- Geometric design ability.
- Professional delivery and appearance to ensure SMEC's image is maintained.
- Courteous and business-orientated manners when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations.
- Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment.
- Project financial knowledge, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with Bentley MicroStation, Open Roads Design Software as well as Civil3D.
- Interest and/or experience with BIM systems would be advantageous.
