Los Angeles, CA | On-siteSummaryThe candidate for this position will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Legal Department. The candidate will investigate and coordinate company responses to served complaints and legal demand correspondence, conduct legal research, assist in discovery responses, review responses to all properly served subpoenas and government requests for information, respond where appropriate to consumer inquiries and demands, provide guidance to other departments concerning development of policy, procedures and legal compliance. The candidate will assist Corporate Counsel in special projects, risk analysis, and implementation of policy.The ideal candidate must possess initiative, a generalized legal knowledge of litigation procedure, compliance, auto finance, and regulatory rules and regulations, be able to make reasoned decisions, provide insight, and analysis with little if any guidance, be detail oriented yet see the big picture, and have strong organizational, analytical, written and oral communication skills.Responsibilities
- Coordinate investigations and evaluations of legal actions or attorney demand letters.
- Assist with responses to written discovery in litigation matters.
- Review responses to subpoenas and government requests for information.
- Provide guidance and where applicable training to other departments concerning development of policy, procedures, and legal compliance.
- Respond to upper management requests for legal status reports, cost expenditures, and potential exposure limits.
- Conduct legal research, prepare memorandums and position papers, review all correspondence for legal compliance, draft or review vendor agreements and contracts.
- Assist Corporate Counsel in special projects, risk analysis, and implementation of policy.
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills, computer literate especially in word and excel.
- Generalized legal knowledge of litigation procedure, auto finance, regulatory, and compliance rules and regulations, strong legal research skills
- Multi-task, prioritize with limited supervision, make reasoned judgments and recommendations.
- Work in a fast paced, dynamic, ever changing regulatory and operational environment.
- Fast learner, able to keep up with a heavy work-load and time pressures.
- Recent Law School Graduate;
- Paralegal certification;
- Previous experience in litigation matters through employment with legal firm, regulatory agency or auto finance company.
- $75,000 to $85,000 per year
- The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire and will be dependent on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure when applicable.
