- Works in partnership with supervisor on planning for and coordinating services for the arrival of new Afghan refugees including pre-arrival scheduling and preparing housing.
- Assists clients with accessing social services, including enrollment in public benefits, school, employment services, and any additional services they may qualify for.
- Conducts home visits to ensure clients have suitable living arrangements.
- Collaborates with client to develop individualized service plan that addresses short- and long-term goals and objectives.
- Tracks client funding in concert with supervisor according to the State Department's requirements.
- Arranges appropriate interpretation services and transportation for clients.
- Documents client interaction and service in a timely manner and in compliance with program requirements.
- Advocates on behalf of the clients throughout the broader community.
- Works collaboratively with volunteers to maximize assistance to clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Undergraduate degree preferred.
- 1-2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Understanding of available community resources that impact and/or benefit the targeted client needs.
- Knowledge of basic client management procedures for determining eligibility, assessing needs, identifying resources, making referrals, following-up, and documenting client interactions and proactively supporting client's pursuit of goals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and able to effectively communicate with individuals and groups.
- English fluency required; fluency in Dari, Farsi and/or Pashto preferred.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently in a fast-paced work environment and remain flexible in an ever-changing landscape for refugee issues.
- Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability while being a team player.
- Ability to work outside of the 9-5 schedule, as needed.
- Valid drivers' license with access to reliable transportation.
- Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
