- Preventive work with students, staff, and families
- Providing consultation to school staff and parents to facilitate student educational, social, and emotional growth.
- Obtaining information concerning the effects of environment, including family, cultural, and economic disadvantages that may be adversely affecting student progress.
- Conducting home visits that encourage home/school communication.
- Working collaboratively with school leadership, educators, and the family liaison to develop plans of assistance for students at risk of academic and/or behavioral difficulty.
- Coordinating school and community services.
- Serving as the home-school-community liaison responsible for effective resource utilization and positive relations with stakeholders.
- Conducting needs assessments.
- Planning for support services both within and outside the school.
- Managing family resource centers, where parents/guardians can access needed information and participate in opportunities to learn how to support their student(s)
- Master's Degree in school social work, or related fields (MSW) required
- 1 to 3 years experience directly related to the essential responsibilities specified. Social work experience in an early childhood/lower elementary experience.
- Current DC LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker) licensure is preferred. Applicants with a license in process are considered as well.
- Ability to conduct clinical interviews and write comprehensive social history evaluations.
- Ability to administer, interpret, and analyze related assessment instruments.
- Proficiency and independence with the PowerSchool Special Programs for progress monitoring, session notes, and creation of service trackers.
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Interviewing and psychological/developmental assessment skills.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
