GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed. A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown to support the development of molecular imaging probes. The RT works as part of a team to perform research studies. The RT collects and analyzes study data as well as documents, compiles and maintains research data.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In order of importance, list essential areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. This section should be completed as a bulleted list and explain how the role is performed.We are seeking a full-time Research Technician to take on several job responsibilities. We will train all employees.The major responsibilities we are looking for a Research Technician to take on are:1. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of chemical and biological samples using absorbance, fluorescence, or mass spectrometry detection· Candidate will be trained but HPLC experience is a plus.· Candidate must:· Prepare samples for analyses from biological matrices· Prepare standards and calibrate instruments· Run analyses and analyze data· Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists· Maintain and troubleshoot instruments2. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) of samples for elemental analysis.· Candidate must:· Prepare samples for analyses from biological matrices· Prepare standards and calibrate instruments· Run analyses and analyze data· Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists· Maintain and troubleshoot instruments3. Chemical and biochemical assays· General wet lab knowledge is required for this project· A variety of assays using standard protocols are performed in the lab. These involve:· Protein preparation, purification, quantification using standard techniques like FPLC, BCA assay, Western blot, SDS-PAGE· UV-Vis, Fluorescence, NMR, and HPLC readouts· Data analysis using Excel or GraphPad Prism· Reporting data summaries to senior scientists4. Inorganic syntheses· Occasional preparation of metal complexes used as molecular imaging probes· Formulation and analysis of the probe solutionsSKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: This section should be a bulleted list of minimum requirements explaining the skills (what the individual is trained for) and competencies (measurable as defined by the job) necessary to perform the job.· Responsibilities include operation and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments (ICP, HPLC, LC-MS), execution and interpretation of bioanalytical assays, ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.· The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and willing to master new techniques. Salary will be commensurate with experience.QualificationsEDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.
  • Those with a minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Position involves working in a biomedical imaging research lab. The employee will work in a general office environment and a wet lab (chemistry/biology) environment.
