Administrator of School Safety and Security, Deputy Superintendent, SuperintendentReceives guidance from:Administrator of School Safety and Security, Deputy Superintendent, SuperintendentOvertime status:Compliant with position, salary and FLSA regulationsJob purpose:In keeping a tradition of excellence, the Safety and Security Coordinator will provide the necessary leadership and coordination to develop and maintain an Emergency Management Plan and Crisis Plan for the Rankin County School District. The Safety and Security Coordinator will perform supervisory and administrative tasks in developing, implementing and managing programs designed to effectively address security and serve as the emergency manager. The Safety and Security Coordinator works with the school board, school administrators and law enforcement on all areas of school safety and security for site-based administrators.Duties and responsibilities:Visit campuses and communicate daily with administrators and the local entities (law enforcement, fire departments, LEO’s, etc…) that serve our 28 schoolsResearch and study new and innovative approaches to school safety, both locally and nationallyReview school safety plansCoordinate emergency services for athletic/extracurricular eventsMonitor weather and coordinate with local officials and the NWS to make recommendations to the Administrator of Safety and Security, Deputy Superintendent and SuperintendentTrain administrators, safety coordinators, CERT teams and staffWhen requested, provide escort or accompany school officials in home visitsAssist the residency department with investigationsWhen requested, assist in the tracking and investigative work regarding lost or stolen RCSD fixed assetsCoordinate with all local first responders in the county, including law enforcement, fire departments, JDC, mental health agencies, EOC and NWS/NOAACoordinate with Administrators and Law Enforcement on educating students in our drug, alcohol, and violence programs (D.A.R.E., LEADS)Perform routine inspections at the RCSD schools to ensure adherence to safety and security standardsAssist the Administrator of Safety and Security, Athletics and Health with overseeing our safety platform, emergency app, and camera systems (Nside, RAVE, Fusus)Attend, review reports, and critique safety drills and make sure schools are in compliance with MDE guidelinesAssist with criminal investigations involving RCSDAssist with the investigations of threats towards RCSDBe available for extracurricular activities and emergencies that may occur after normal business hoursMaintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employeeand ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable useUndergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy proceduresMaintain confidentialityRegular, dependable, punctual, and in person attendance is an essential function of this positionPerform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, RCSD Superintendent, RCSD Deputy Superintendent, administrator, director or as established by district policyRead, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by RCSD, and Mississippi Educator Code of ConductPreferred Qualifications:Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in a related fieldCertification: Valid MS drivers license, MS Law Enforcement standards for yearly firearms certification, and enhanced concealed carry permitOther: A minimum of eight years experience in any law enforcement in a traditional law agency is preferred. Law enforcement leadership experience is preferred and any additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Experience as an EMT, Paramedic with medical control in Rankin County is also preferred.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
