Position InformationThis is a seasonal position working for the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Department's Therapeutic Recreation summer camp program. The position involves 40 hours a week, as a summer camp Counselor II, working with children and teenagers with special needs and supervising 6-8 camp counselors.The purpose of this classification is to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience for camp participants.Job SummaryThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Ensures that all rules are followed by camp participants.Oversees, directs and organizes camp participants.Assists in overseeing the before and aftercare program, including staff and planned activities. Initiates and directs the transition between camp activities and programsAssist Counselors with providing personal care services to participants as neededPrepares facilities and equipment for camp activities.Learns and implements positive behavior-management techniques.Maintains clear and positive communication with supervisor, co-workers, parents and camp participants.Drive Camp 15 passenger vans to daily field tripsAttends weekly field trips.Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating camp activities.Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to Summer Camp Director.Serves as role model to camp participants and other staff.Maintains and stores camp equipment and supplies.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSThis classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.Completes and performs other related duties as requiredReports directly to Camp Director and TR staffProvides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.Minimum QualificationsMust be 18 years or older. Have experience working or volunteering with children with disabilities and have experience working or volunteering with youth is preferred. Must possess organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable and responsible. Must be able to work outdoors and participate in active games and programming. Must pass Criminal Background Check and drug test. Must attend and complete First Aid/CPR Certification (prior to start of summer camp).Supplemental Information
